Primary Function:
Serves as a member of the teaching faculty of the College, with administrative and leadership responsibilities, with the other academic leaders, for the overall educational program at MCAD, and is directly responsible for the Media Arts Department. Oversees all areas of student learning for Animation, Photography, Filmmaking, and Web and Multimedia majors.
Serves as a member of the Academic VP's Cabinet and on committees as may be advantageous to the College, and carries out such functions as may be necessary and assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
In service to the Media Arts Department:
Evaluates instructional programs for continuous improvement, recommending appropriate actions and implementing approved changes.
Supervises internship and independent study policy and practice in the Department.
Prepares the course schedule and assigns faculty their teaching schedule.
Prepares annual budget requests and rationale for the Department, submitting recommendations to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Recruits and hires new, replacement, and adjunct faculty as needed.
Conducts performance evaluations for full-time faculty and formulates, in concert with individual faculty members, appropriate goals for each to ensure ongoing educational excellence and advancement.
Provides written recommendations to the Vice President of Academic Affairs regarding sabbatical approval, appointment, dismissal, compensation and promotion of each faculty member.
Maintains informational and visual materials on faculty.
Encourages the professional growth and development of faculty.
Develops and implements academic policies and advising procedures in the Department congruent with College mission and goals.
Actively participates in planning sessions and implementation strategies for the improvement of student recruiting and retention.
Participates in the evaluation of academic support area facilities and personnel, providing input toward the goal of continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Education: Master's Degree, or equivalent desired. Superior teaching and professional credentials.
Experience: Minimum three years college teaching.
Skills: Demonstrated managerial skills and leadership potential. Must demonstrate particular skills in one of the majors. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and afford vision, guidance, and advocacy for faculty.
