Systems Administrator (Win/Postmaster)

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design has an immediate opening for a full-time, benefits-eligible Systems Administrator (Win/Postmaster) in our Technology Department. Primary Function:
Design, maintain, and upgrade school-wide back-end hardware and software infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration includes backup, configuration, development, documentation, management, maintenance, research, and security

  • Primary Windows Administrator, including but not limited to:
  •           o Client and server hardware Administration, including but not limited to:
  •                 + Microsoft Active Directory Server
  •                 + Microsoft SQL Server
  •                 + Windows Blackboard Server
  •           o Command line scripting (eg.; DOS Batch, VBScript)
  •           o Departmental file server Administration
  •           o Client and server operating system Administration
                    + See Primary Windows Build Administrator below 
  •           o Reporting application support and troubleshooting (eg.; InfoMaker, Crystal Reports)
  •           o Student Information Systems Windows client application Administration (eg.; Jenzabar EX, PowerFAIDS)
  •                 + User Management
  • Primary Windows Build Administrator, including but not limited to:
  •           o Software Deployment and maintenance (ex. SCCM)
  •           o Windows Desktop Build Administration
  •           o Other specialized builds and software installation as required
  • Postmaster, including but not limited to:
  •           o Cloud Email Administration (eg.; Google Apps for Education)
  •           o Local Email Administration (eg.; Dovecot, Postfix)
  •           o Mailing List Administration (eg.; Mailman)
  • Google Apps Administrator, including but not limited to:
  •           o Google Apps for Education domain Administration
  •           o Email
  •           o Calendaring
  •           o Other services, as enabled
  • Primary Backup Administrator, including but not limited to:
  •           o Retrospect Administration
  •           o Backup compliance and facilitation 
  • Common Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  •           o Project management
  •           o Basic hardware maintenance and network cable pulls, which requires some lifting
  •           o Department cross-training and coordination
  •           o Help Desk support and departmental technical service requests
  •           o On-call (primary and secondary) for responding to and resolving systems issues occurring outside of business hours
  •           o Oversee and advise MCAD community regarding technology data structures, policies, standards, procedures, methodology, etc.
  •           o Purchasing research, vendor selection, and vendor maintenance
  •                 + Hardware, licensing (eg.; Microsoft Campus Agreement), services, and software 
  •           o Technical guidance and assistance
  •           o Other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BS in MIS, or equivalent technical experience


Experience:

  • Three years work experience in administration of information systems and client workstations, preferably in an educational environment.
  • Documented experience with appropriate protocols (eg.; CIFS, IMAP, SFTP, SMTP, POP3), primary server operating system (eg.; Windows), workstation operating systems (eg.; Mac OS X, Windows), multi-server backup applications (eg.; Retrospect), and interpreted programming languages (eg.; VBScript).
  • Working knowledge of databases (eg.; Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, SQLite), directory servers (eg.; Active Directory), supported server operating systems (eg.; Linux, Mac OS X), version control (eg.; Git, Subversion).
  • Familiarity with compiled programming languages (eg.; C).

Skills:

  • Ability to systematize and structure individual components.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Facility in identifying, prioritizing and solving problems with a deadline.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team. Detail-oriented and self-starter.

Additional Requirements:

  • On-call for responding to and resolving network issues occurring outside of business hours.
