The Minneapolis College of Art and Design has an immediate opening for a full-time, benefits-eligible Systems Administrator (Linux/DBs) in our Technology Department. Primary function is to Design, maintain and upgrade school-wide back-end hardware and software infrastructure. Administration includes backup, configuration, development, documentation, management, maintenance, research and security.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary Linux Administrator, including but not limited to:
- o Client and server hardware administration
- o Command line scripting (eg., Bourne Shell)
- o MCAD Directory Administration (eg., OpenLDAP)
- + MCAD Account Administration
- o Operating System Administration
- o Print Queue Administration (eg., CUPS)
- o Technology Web Application System Integration/Support
- + PHPMyAdmin, Request Tracker, etc.
- + Security advising (eg., file permissions, .htaccess)
- Primary Database Administrator, including but not limited to:
- o Data Transformation Services
- + Export Jenzabar EX Class data for use on Intranet (by Communications and External Relations)
- o Database Reporting Support (eg., InfoMaker, Crystal Reports)
- o Facilitate interdepartmental communication regarding database systems
- o Jenzabar EX Database Support
- o Microsoft SQL Server Administration
- + Users, roles, store procedures, etc.
- Common responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- o Project management
- o Basic hardware maintenance and network cable pulls, which requires some lifting
- o Department cross-training and coordination
- o HelpDesk support and departmental technical service requests
- o On-call (primary and secondary) for responding to and resolving systems issues occurring outside of business hours
- o Oversee and advise MCAD community regarding technology data structures, policies, standards, procedures, methodology, etc.
- o Purchasing research, vendor selection and vendor maintenance
- + Hardware, licensing, services and software
- o Technical guidance and assistance
- o Other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
Education:
- BS in MIS, or equivalent technical experience.
Experience:
- Three years work experience in administration of information systems and client workstations, preferably in an educational environment.
- Documented experience with appropriate protocols (eg., HTTP, LDAP, SFTP), databases (eg., Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, SQLite), directory servers (eg., OpenLDAP), primary server operating system (eg., Linux), workstation operating systems (eg., Mac OS X, Windows), and interpreted programming languages (eg., Bourne Shell, Perl).
- Working knowledge of supported server operating systems (eg., Mac OS X, Windows), multi-server backup applications (eg., Retrospect) and version control (eg., Git, Subversion). Familiarity with compiled programming languages (eg., C).
Skills:
- Ability to systematize and structure individual components.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.
- Facility in identifying, prioritizing and solving problems with a deadline.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Detail-oriented and self-starter.
Additional:
- On-call for responding to and resolving network issues occurring outside of business hours.Other: This position has been identified as security sensitive, and as such will require a background check.
