Network Administrator

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design has an immediate opening for a full-time, benefits-eligible Network Administrator in our Technology Department. Primary Function
Provides overall operational management and security for MCAD's networking services.

Duties and Responsibilities
Administration includes backup, configuration, development, documentation, management, maintenance, research, and security

Primary Network Administrator, including but not limited to:

    * Network Appliance/Device Administration
    * Intrusion detection/prevention, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
    * Network infrastructure research, planning and recommendations
    * 802.1x wireless authenticated system Administration
    * ISP connectivity management, purchasing research, vendor selection, and vendor maintenance

Common Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

    * Project management
    * Basic hardware maintenance and network cable pulls, which requires some lifting.
    * Department cross-training and coordination
    * Help Desk support and departmental technical service requests
    * On-call (primary and secondary) for responding to and resolving systems issues occurring outside of business hours.
    * Oversee and advise MCAD community regarding technology data structures, policies, standards, procedures, methodology, etc.
    * Purchasing research, vendor selection, and vendor maintenance
          o Hardware, licensing, services, and software
    * Technical guidance and assistance
    * Other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor


Qualifications

Education

    * BS in MIS, or equivalent technical experience

Experience

    * Three years work experience in administration of information systems and client workstations, preferably in an educational environment.
    * Documented experience with appropriate protocols (ex. DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, UDP), enterprise networking equipment (ex. Cisco, Juniper), routing (ex. BGP), switching (ex. VLANs, spanning tree), primary server operating system (ex. Linux), and interpreted programming languages (ex. Bourne Shell).
    * Working knowledge of directory servers (ex. OpenLDAP), and supported server operating systems (ex. Mac OS X, Windows), workstation operating systems (ex. Mac OS X, Windows), and version control (ex. Git, Subversion).
    * Familiarity with Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS), and compiled programming languages (ex. C).

Skills

    * Ability to systematize and structure individual components.
    * Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.
    * Facility in identifying, prioritizing and solving problems with a deadline.
    * Ability to work effectively in a team. Detail-oriented and self-starter.

Additional Requirements

    * On-call for responding to and resolving network issues occurring outside of business hours.
    * This position has been identified as security sensitive, and as such will require a background check. At the discretion of the college, various background checks may be done during the course of employment.
