The Minneapolis College of Art and Design has an opening for a part-time, benefits-eligible Counseling Psychologist in our Student Affairs Department.
Primary Function:
Counsel students, individually and in small groups, regarding personal growth and development. Provide diagnosis and referrals as needed. Train resident assistants and orientation leaders on issues relevant to college life. Consult with faculty and staff regarding mental health and chemical dependency issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individual counseling and assessment services for students, individually and in groups.
- Counsel and refer students with a variety of problems including depression, anxiety, chemical use/abuse, difficulty adjusting to aspects of student life, or who are having other personal/social difficulties.
- Develop and deliver workshops or training sessions for students, faculty and staff as needed. Present information on mental health to parents and students at orientation sessions.
- Develop and maintain a network of professionals and organizations that can serve as referral sources for students.
- Work with Student Affairs, Housing and Student Activities personnel to develop ongoing health/wellness programming for students.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Work four days per week during the two 15-week semesters according to the MCAD school calendar. Work additional hours prior to the start of the school year in early August, for a total of 1000 hours per year.
Qualifications:
Education: MSW, MA or Ph.D. in counseling and MN licensure.
Experience: Proven experience in working as a counselor with college-aged students. College counseling center experience, helpful. Interest in art/design field, a plus.
Skills: Strong interpersonal communication, counseling, diagnostic and referral skills.
