Facilities Maintenance
Primary Function:
Perform carpentry maintenance to all College buildings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, including but not limited to demolition and rough construction; drywall and plaster; metal work; masonry, concrete, block and brick work; resilient and hard surface flooring; repair/replace doors and windows; cabinet, lock and hardware repair; plastic laminate work; suspended ceilings and insulation. Scope of work involves repairs, remodeling and departmental and program requests.
- -Work from verbal instruction and read prints, sketches, etc. to compile a material list and verify field/shop measurements. Notify supervisor of discrepancies.
- -Inspect work site to determine method and materials, equipment, tools, and supplies needed. May need to order special materials as required by scope of work.
- -Transport materials, tools and equipment to the work site.
- -Plan, lay-out, fabricate, assemble and install materials, equipment and fixtures as required by the scope of work, and as required by the trade, meeting the satisfaction of the department and the supervisor.
- -Maintain status reports on all phases of fabrication and construction. Document labor and materials used.
- -Maintain cleanliness of work area and surroundings at all times.
- Assist in developing project estimates for completion of carpentry services, in-house and with outside vendors, and in obtaining specifications in bid preparation for acquiring services, contracts and items.
- Assist in developing standards of construction and installation, emphasizing safety.
- Assist with supplies and materials inventory selection and maintenance; inspect and advise on condition of equipment.
- Assist/work with other trades. May be asked to provide work direction to student help or other assigned personnel. Directly supervised by Lead Carpenter, may receive indirect supervision from Facilities Director.

Working Conditions:
May be subject to being on-call; carry a beeper or two-way radio; working with hazardous materials; schedule changes based on the needs of the College; work long hours to complete/perform scheduled or emergency functions and projects. Must be able to clearly relate instructions and directions. Will be called upon to discuss remodeling, repairs, new construction and other carpentry-related projects.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs. Involves a great deal of walking. Required to work in confined spaces, which may require extended periods of stooping, bending or kneeling and standing for long periods. Must possess normal vision, hearing and physical dexterity. Will be required to do own laboring which may involve heavy weights, considered manageable and safe; must be able to transport equipment, including carts which may carry 400 pounds. Required to work under adverse weather conditions and varying temperatures.
Qualifications:
Education: High School graduate, or equivalent.
Experience: Four years experience in building and general maintenance. General knowledge of all phases of building construction and various construction materials. Must have working knowledge of all tools of the trade (hand and power tools and equipment) and their safe use.
Skills: Valid driver's license and satisfactory background DMV check required. Must be able to pass the Kari Koskinen Manager Background Check. Ability to read and understand prints and shop drawings.
