Primary Function:

Responsible for the overall operation of the College's administrative technology services, facilities and supervision of ITS staffing. Provides project management and programming development for MCAD's information systems and customized applications. Analyzes computer and information business needs and develops solutions from an operational and strategic perspective. Oversees supervision of institution-wide client/server systems administration duties, end-user technical solutions, training and key administrative hardware/software support. Provides secondary, back-up support for mission critical information systems and services. Works with department heads and VP Technology Committee to determine strategic direction of the school's administrative information systems and overall administrative computing development work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manager:
    • Supervises Information Technology Services staff
    • Oversees System and Network Administration budgets
    • Oversees special initiative project planning and development
    • Design and maintain ITS support policies and documentation
  • Systems Analyst, including but not limited to:
    • Designs, develops and implements comprehensive administrative software systems to support new or existing services
    • Provides key system analysis, project management and programming development activities for MCAD's administrative databases, business and student information systems, file servers, and academic needs
    • Assists in creation of institution-wide data standards and IT database procedural documentation
    • Improves the overall integrity, efficiency and security of institutional databases
    • Identifies, develops and provides administrative training resources and appropriate end-user documentation.
  • Common Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
    • Basic hardware maintenance and network cable pulls, which requires some lifting.
    • Department cross-training and coordination
    • Help Desk support and departmental technical service requests
    • On-call (tertiary) for responding to and resolving systems issues occurring outside of business hours.
    • Oversee and advise MCAD community regarding technology data structures, policies, standards, procedures, methodology, etc.
    • Purchasing research, vendor selection, licensing administration and vendor maintenance
    • Technical guidance and assistance
    • Other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor

Experience:

  • Three years work experience in administration of information systems and client workstations, preferably in an educational environment.
  • Strong understanding of technology and business practices required.
  • Documented experience with appropriate protocols (ex. DHCP, DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SFTP), databases (ex. Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, SQLite), directory servers (ex. OpenLDAP), supported server operating systems (ex. Linux, Mac OS X, Windows), workstation operating systems (ex. Mac OS X, Windows), interpreted programming languages (ex. Bourne Shell, Perl), and version control (ex. Git, Subversion).
  • Working knowledge of student information systems (ex. Jenzabar EX), human resources information systems (ex. Ceridian Source), report authoring (ex. InfoMaker, Crystal Reports, FRx), and multi-server backup applications (ex. Retrospect).
  • Familiarity with compiled programming languages (ex. C).

Skills:

  • Aptitude for relational database and server management including system administration, design, and report writing.
  • Ability to systematize and structure individual components.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Facility in identifying, prioritizing and solving problems with a deadline.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team. Detail-oriented and self-starter.
